| When our firm started more than two decades ago, clients didn’t want help with the media as part of our service. Now, almost every client wants – and needs – public relations advice. BGR Public Relations fulfills that need in a big and unique way.
Led by veteran TV and print journalist Jeff Birnbaum, BGR PR specializes in offering the counsel of former top journalists in a way that sets it apart. Jeff has been joined by former Deputy Editor of Roll Call Erin Billings. Together they offer deep experience at the highest levels of their profession. They can explain how reporters think – and how they decide what news is from their perspective – in ways that conventional PR people simply cannot. Their writing skills are also exceptional.
Jeff and Erin spent their careers being pitched by PR firms and understand firsthand what works and what doesn’t in the modern media. They are exactly the kind of experts clients need to deal with crises, to advance policy goals and to disseminate key messages widely and in the world’s most prestigious publications – both online and in print. They are a one-two punch that few organizations can match.
Jeff Birnbaum is one of Washington’s most distinguished and accomplished journalists. For nearly 30 years, Jeff has operated at the city’s top echelon. He worked for 16 years at the Wall Street Journal, covering Congress, tax legislation, politics and the White House. He was a senior political correspondent for Time Magazine, the Washington bureau chief of Fortune Magazine and a columnist for the Washington Post. He is also the author of four books about official Washington and has been a Fox News political analyst for more than a dozen years.
Managing Director Erin Billings has been a rising star in Washington for over 10 years. She started on the web desk at Roll Call and was steadily promoted until she became the No. 2 editor at the prestigious Capitol Hill publication – as well as one of the most valuable employees at CQ Roll Call, a subsidiary of the Economist [Magazine] Group. She covered Congress closely and knows Washington’s players, issues and folk ways well. She is an ace whose recommendations and way with words could easily make the difference between victory and defeat in any public campaign.
Erin works with Jeff and the rest of his public relations staff – both in Washington and in London. BGR Public Relations works in tandem with the firm’s lobbyists and also has clients of its own. The practice includes: crisis management, public policy campaigns, online outreach, foreign-government representation and straight-up corporate PR. Jeff has also developed a cottage industry of rebranding trade associations by choreographing the roll outs of their newly chosen chief executives.
